Bishop Rock Lighthouse
|
The first tower in this location was almost complete when it was destroyed in a storm in 1850, after more than two years of work. The present tower took seven years to complete. It was strengthened by a new layer of masonry and increased in height in the 1880s. In 1946 a BBC reporter went to the lighthouse for a Christmas broadcast and was stranded for four weeks by heavy seas.
