“Beware the Evil Eye”. The ancient traditional talisman of blue glass beads painted with an eye lives on in North Cyprus. It is widely believed that hateful looks given by one person towards another can be strong enough to cause the Evil Eye to strike, bringing bad luck, illness and even death. The smooth, rounded glass beads are thought to deflect the evil power away from the victim. These beads swing from the rear view mirrors of taxis, are balanced above doorways of restaurants, shops and family homes, and adorn jewellery.
