Karpaz peninsular

The secluded and unpolluted finger of land which points up to Syria in the North-East. Also known as the “panhandle”, where tourism is almost wholly absent, the peninsula has fine beaches where turtles come ashore from May onwards to lay their eggs. The rural landscape is sparsely populated and was predominantly Greek pre-1974. A few exquisite early churches are still in use, as the Karpaz retains a small community of 600 Greeks who chose to stay behind after 1974, continuing to live in and around Dipkarpaz.
